We would like to introduce you to Ryan Havey, who works as a Systems Analyst in our Systems Development and IT Department at our Holland, Michigan location.
A Wisconsinite, Ryan found himself at our Holland, Michigan offices after studying Business Management at Hope College and studying in Australia for a semester.
Q: What is your name and what location do you work at?
A: My name is Ryan Havey and I work at the Holland, MI location.
Q: How many years have you been at Koops?
A: I came to Koops in May 2017, so almost a year and a half!
Q: Where did you receive your education?
A: I studied Business Management at Hope College and spent a semester in Sydney, Australia at the International College of Management.
Q: Why did you choose this field/career?
A: I chose business because I liked solving complex problems and there seemed to never be a shortage of them! There are so many moving pieces in every business problem, it’s fun to get them all in place and work together with the team to make sure we find the right solution.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your job here at Koops?
A: I learn something new every day. I really enjoy finding new technologies and ideas to make our systems better and more enjoyable to use. It sounds nerdy, but I get really excited when my code works.
Q: Why do you choose to work at Koops?
A: I love the people here, everyone really owns their work and we all know that we’re on the same team. It’s a lot of fun to have
that comradery.
Q: Describe a typical day at the office
A: Usually I get in and open my email to see if there is anything that needs my immediate assistance. I then pour a cup of coffee and work on pushing system updates from the day before when there aren’t too many people using our systems yet. I work with developers and fellow Koops team members to make sure all of our systems are accomplishing what they need to.
Q: In your time at Koops, what are you most proud of?
A: Well, it’s not done yet, but what I will be most proud of is our Scheduler. Right now that’s the squeakiest wheel in our systems and once the update is complete we’re going to save a lot of people a lot of headaches.
Q: Before working at Koops, what was the most unusual or interesting job you had?
A: One summer I drove a bicycle taxi in downtown Holland as a side job. It was a ton of fun to meet all the different people, ride through the street performers, and take people to Boatwerks.
Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
A: In the summer, I really enjoy stand up paddle (SUP) boarding and try to get on the lake 2-3 times
a week when the water is still decently warm – especially if the waves are nice! Founder, my
9-month-old German Shepherd mix also keeps me pretty busy finding different trails and
dog-friendly activities.
Q: What is your favorite vacation spot?
A: It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I love going places I’ve never been to before. About a month ago, some friends and I went on a backpacking trip to Jasper and Banff National Parks
in Canada and that was my first time in the Rocky Mountains, I’d like to do more exploring in the American Rockies.
Q: What are your favorite kinds of food?
A: I’m from Wisconsin, so Johnsonville brats top the list, but I also really like sushi. A group of us go for sushi a couple times a month.
Q: Anything else you want to share?
A: Shout out to the others in the Koops fantasy football league – good luck this season. You’ll need it ?
