Chair Back Assembly Machine
The chair back assembly machine is a semi-automated station that was used to assemble chair backs for office chairs. First a plastic seat frame followed by twenty small metal rods were manually loaded into the station and verified with part presence sensors. The operator would start the machine and it would automatically snap the rods into the plastic chair frame. A plastic cover piece was then manually installed with an automated screw driver on the seat back. Racks for the bins that contained the twenty metal rods were also provided. Each rack position included a bin pick sensor that was used to verify the operators were installing the metal rods in the proper sequence. A PLC and HMI were used to control the station.
